Aomori Private Tour from the Cruise Port: A Day Exploring Aomori's Treasures with Your Guide and Chauffeur
Cruise-port private day tour of Aomori with a guide: Jomon ruins, the Museum of Art, Wa Rasse Nebuta, and a seafood lunch.
Overview
At the northern tip of Honshu, Aomori sits on Mutsu Bay, framed by the Hakkoda Mountains and the open Pacific. It is a town blessed with seafood, prized fruit and a deep cultural memory that reaches back thousands of years, and it welcomes you directly off the ship at Aomori Port.
This private day traces the city's signature thread. At Sannai-Maruyama, you walk through a Jomon settlement inhabited more than 5,000 years ago and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2021, with reconstructed pit dwellings and a museum of earthenware, stoneware and ornaments. From there you reach the Aomori Museum of Art, a sculptural building that houses works by local Aomori artists alongside international collections and the much-loved Aomori Dog by Yoshitomo Nara. A short transfer brings you to Nebuta no Ie Wa Rasse, where the powerful illuminated floats of the city's August Nebuta Festival are kept year-round.
Lunch is served inside the same waterfront complex at Fish Restaurant Den, a window onto the seafood that defines Aomori Prefecture, with generous bowls, pasta and curry built around the catch of the day. The afternoon closes at A-Factory, a duty-free market hall where cidre and apple juices are pressed on site using fruit from Japan's top apple-producing prefecture.
An English-speaking guide and a private car meet you at the cruise terminal and stay with you for the whole day. The tour is arranged for one family or a small cruise group, and timings flex to your ship's arrival and departure windows so that you return on board with hours to spare.

❖ Aomori Port Pick-up
09:00

Your guide and private car meet you at the Aomori Cruise Port terminal. After a short briefing on the day ahead and your ship’s planned departure window, you set off for the first stop.
❖ Sannai-Maruyama Ruins

The Sannai-Maruyama settlement was discovered during a 1992 excavation survey, revealing a large-scale Jomon community from more than 5,000 years ago. Many residences, tombs, earthenware, stoneware, and ornaments were uncovered here. The grounds are wrapped in nature, and you can step into a reconstructed pit-type dwelling or explore the exhibits within the visitor halls. Experience the lives of those people who once lived in harmony with this land.
❖ The Aomori Museum of Art

The Aomori Museum of Art is characterised by a modern and distinctive architectural design, set immediately next to the Sannai-Maruyama ruins. It is one of the prefecture’s newest landmarks, home to the celebrated white Aomori Dog sculpture that stands in its own courtyard, alongside works by local Aomori artists and collections from around the world. Enjoy the dialogue between the pieces and the rich nature and climate of Aomori that surrounds them.
❖ Nebuta no Ie Wa Rasse

A tourist facility on the waterfront that showcases the history and charm of the Nebuta Festival held in Aomori every summer. You absorb the lively atmosphere of the actual festival while standing among the powerful Nebuta lantern floats used during the celebration.

Regular performances of the rousing music that accompanies the floats fill the hall. The exhibits also introduce Aomori’s wider traditional culture, performing arts, and crafts, giving deeper context to the festival that defines the city every August.

❖ A-Factory

A duty-free, market-style shopping centre at the foot of the Aomori Bay Bridge, selling local sweets, processed goods, fresh vegetables and fruit. Its most featured space is the on-site apple cidre factory, which produces cider and juice from Aomori-grown apples (Aomori is Japan’s top apple-producing prefecture). Watch the production through glass walls, and pick up a tasting card to sample the fresh flavours of Aomori Cider, a must-buy made from Aomori apples.
