The day unfolds gently along the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko. You drift out onto the water on a sightseeing cruise, the mountain rising clear above the surface, then pause for an unhurried lunch of tempura or noodles at a relaxed, step-free restaurant by the lake. At Oishi Park, ribbons of seasonal flowers spread like a carpet toward the water, framing one of the most complete views of Mt. Fuji in the region: a place to breathe in the fresh country air and let the scenery slow the day down.
The afternoon turns to art at the Kubota Itchiku Art Museum, devoted to the master who revived the lost Tsujigahana silk-dyeing technique. Inside wait his shimmering kimono, including the unfinished masterpiece Symphony of Light, while the buildings themselves, raised from Okinawan coral and limestone in a Gaudi-inspired style, are a discovery in their own right. ❖ Appare, the Lake Kawaguchiko Sightseeing Boat

Board Appare, the Lake Kawaguchiko sightseeing boat, and glide out onto open water. The clear lake surrounds you on every side while Mt. Fuji rises directly overhead, a rare chance to take in the mountain from the calm of the lake itself.
❖ Lunch at Idaten by Lake Kawaguchiko

Pause for lunch at Idaten, a step-free restaurant beside Lake Kawaguchiko, where the kitchen serves traditional tempura or hand-made noodles. The exact timing can shift a little with the flow of the morning's activities.
❖ Kawaguchiko Oishi Park

Follow the sparkling lakeshore to Kawaguchiko Oishi Park, where fields of seasonal flowers spread like a carpet toward the water beneath a full view of Mt. Fuji. Have your camera ready: this is a place to breathe in the fresh country air and let the views relax you.
❖ Kubota Itchiku Art Museum

Kubota Itchiku was the artist who revived Tsujigahana, a fabric-dyeing technique that flourished in the Muromachi period (1336 to 1573) before falling out of favour; in the 1930s he devoted his life to mastering it. His museum on the shore of Lake Kawaguchiko holds his most beautiful kimono, among them the unfinished masterpiece Symphony of Light, eighty kimono that together form a picture of Mount Fuji. The buildings, raised from Okinawan coral and limestone in a Gaudi-inspired style, and the garden he designed himself, climbing from the entrance gate into the wooded slopes behind, are as memorable as the collection. Much of the garden is not wheelchair accessible, but the indoor exhibits and the striking outdoor architecture are yours to enjoy. On Tuesdays outside October and November the museum is closed, and the tour visits the Kawaguchiko Music Forest instead.
