Experience the Stunning Nature of Mt. Fuji - Private Tour

Fresh air, beautiful flowers, picturesque lakes at Mt. Fuji.

Overview

Fresh air, beautiful flowers, picturesque lakes, all set to the backdrop of Japan's most famous mountain, Mount Fuji. An eleven-hour private nature tour that brings you out of Tokyo and deep into the Mt. Fuji area, with a focus on the outdoors. You will feel worlds away from the city as you walk amongst wildflowers and take in the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji.

The morning rises along the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, climbing to the summit of Mt. Tenjo at 1,075 metres for one of the finest panoramas of Lake Kawaguchiko and Mt. Fuji together. A gentle hike back down follows the hydrangea road, a forest path lined with hydrangea flowers in season, before lunch on hoto noodles, the famous regional dish of the Kawaguchiko area.

The afternoon traces the Fuji Five Lakes through Oishi Park, a lakeside garden known for seasonal flowers and lavender in summer, then Lake Saiko, the most tranquil of the lakes, set against the dark green of the Aokigahara Forest. The day closes at Iyashi no Sato Nemba, a reconstructed thatched-roof village turned open-air museum, and the Fugaku Wind Cave, a lava ice cave that has stayed at freezing temperatures year-round since long before refrigeration. The tour includes a private car or van with a personal English-speaking guide, and unlike other tours you will spend most of your time outside the vehicle, in the nature.

Details
❖ Hotel Pick-up in Tokyo

08:00

Your guide and private vehicle meet you at your hotel in Tokyo. From there the drive heads west toward the Kawaguchiko area at the foot of Mt. Fuji.

❖ Tenjoyama Park and Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway

10:30 - 11:45 (1:15 h)

With your guide you ride the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway up to 1,075 metres at the summit of Mt. Tenjo. From there the view opens across Lake Kawaguchiko, the most famous of the Fuji Five Lakes, with Mt. Fuji in full presence behind it. After soaking in the view, an ice cream or snack at the summit stall is an easy pause before walking back down along the hydrangea road, an easy forty-minute trek through woods lined with hydrangea flowers in season.

❖ Hoto Lunch around Kawaguchiko

12:00 - 13:00 (1:00 h)

Lunch is the famous dish of the Kawaguchiko area, hoto noodles. Hoto is a heartier and thicker version of udon, served hot with seasonal vegetables in a rich stew, and is one of the dishes most associated with the foot of Mt. Fuji.

❖ Oishi Park

13:05 - 13:25 (20 min)

Oishi Park sits on the shore of Lake Kawaguchi and is loved for its stunning views of Mt. Fuji framed by seasonal flowers, with lavender at its peak in summer. Walking paths, a small cafe and souvenir shops make this a relaxed stop to stroll and take in the scenery.

❖ Lake Saiko

13:40 - 13:55 (15 min)

Set beside the lush green of the Aokigahara Forest, Lake Saiko is perhaps the most tranquil of the Fuji Five Lakes. Its crystal clear blue water is known as one of the best spots in the area for swimming or boating, and the lakeshore offers another opportunity to photograph Mt. Fuji from a different angle.

❖ Iyashi no Sato Nemba

14:00 - 14:55 (55 min)

Iyashi no Sato gives you the chance to step into a traditional Japanese farming village. Near the shores of Lake Saiko, the village was destroyed in a landslide in 1966 and reconstructed in 2006 as an open-air museum. You can see how rural Yamanashi life was once lived, and try your hand at traditional crafts and old-fashioned toys.

❖ Fugaku Wind Cave

15:05 - 15:35 (30 min)

Set within the Aokigahara forest, the Fugaku Wind Cave stays at freezing temperatures year-round, even in the heat of summer. Long before refrigeration, the cave was used as a natural ice store for the warmer months. You can step down into its lava chambers and explore the cool depths.

❖ Return to Tokyo Hotel

16:30 - 19:00

Your guide accompanies you back to your hotel in Tokyo. Please allow for some flexibility on the return time, as traffic heading into the city in the early evening can introduce delays.
