Authentic Japanese Green Tea Tasting & Stunning Views of Mt. Fuji in Shizuoka

Tea plantation visit in Shizuoka, freshly brewed sencha tasting at the farmhouse, and stunning views of Mt. Fuji from Nihondaira Yume Terrace by Kengo Kuma.

Overview

A full day across the Shizuoka tea country, with a tasting at one of Japan's oldest family-run farms, a panoramic visit to a Kengo Kuma observatory, and a closing tea break with views of Mt. Fuji. Designed for a day trip from Tokyo or as a shore excursion for cruise passengers stopping at Shimizu Port.

The visit centres on the Moriuchi Tea Farm, run by the same family since the Edo Period and now in its ninth generation. Mr. and Mrs. Moriuchi, certified Japanese Tea instructors, walk you through the cultivars planted across the farm's slopes (yumesuruga, sofu, tsuyuhikari) and lead a curated tea flight at the traditional farmer's house, explaining the differences between each blend.

In the afternoon the day moves to the Nihondaira Yume Terrace, an architectural masterpiece by Kengo Kuma with a 360-degree panoramic observation corridor, a 1,200 m² garden of seasonal blooms, and, on a clear day, stunning views of Mt. Fuji rising beyond Suruga Bay. The tour closes with a tea break in the terrace lounge of the Nippondaira Hotel, floor-to-ceiling glass framing one of the most poised views of the mountain in the area.

❖ Moriuchi Tea Farm Visit and Tea Flight

10:00 - 11:30 (01:30 h)

Moriuchi Tea Farm is run by a husband-and-wife team, ninth-generation owners since the Edo Period. They are passionate about preserving their family heritage and welcome visitors to explore the farm. Their method of producing the best tea is to study each plot of land and plant each cultivar where it thrives: sunny spots, shady spots, steep, humid. The farm grows many varieties: yumesuruga (sweet), sofu (heavily aromatic), tsuyuhikari (perfect in summer), and others. At the traditional farmer's house, both Mr. and Mrs. Moriuchi, certified Japanese Tea instructors, lead a unique tea flight, explaining the differences between each tea and the special nuances of each blend.
